2018-03-28 While formal education is not a requirement to become a chef, the programs offer specialized knowledge and skills that can serve students in good stead when learning their work. At its core, a culinary arts program should equip you with knowledge and skills required to be a chef who knows how to cook, keep the kitchen safe, create new dishes, and run the kitchen efficiently. 2020-01-07 2021-03-23 Sous Chef, or Assistant Chef, is the right-hand to the Executive Chef. Sous Chefs manage a staff of assistant chefs, cooks and kitchen workers, as well as creating dishes for the menu. Senior Chef, formally called Chef de Partie, is assigned one particular menu specialty in which he or she excels. Chefs de cuisine are experienced cooks or sous chefs, and most kitchens look for individuals with at least six or seven years of food preparation experience for this role. While there are no formal education requirements, chefs de cuisine can increase their job prospects by attending culinary school and achieving certification as executive chefs through the American Culinary Federation.
